Overview

For the year 2020, due to COVID, instead of our usual gathering, we sent emails inviting those who've participated in Freedom at the Arboretum’s past to reflect on the values upon which we founded this nation, and the state of our country today, and submit a quote, poem, or song that they saw in keeping with the spirit of Freedom at the Arboretum.

We received enough to fill several pages.  Each perspective is their own. We did precious little editing for content, preferring to allow the diversity come through. They are all part of us. All are patriots.

So it is time to click on a page so you can reflect on what’s been submitted.  We have a separate page for the Declaration of Independence that is traditionally read each year.

We also allow you to email comments and feedback for future years

We hope you enjoy.!

Let us begin with the national anthem

National Anthem Duet sung by PSU Graduate Madisen Hallberg (2020) and Musician Emmanuel Henreid for Portland State University's Graduation

E PLURIBUS UNUM

A Latin phrase that means: “Out of Many, One.”  It was the original motto of these United States, and is still on our national seal.

In celebrating our diversity we’ll again find insights.
